The Imo State Government on Friday blamed the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Hon. Emeka Ihedioha of sponsoring false reports to damage Governor Hope Uzodimma’s reputation.
The state government also distanced itself from trending news on social media that Uzodimma faulted the Appeal Court judgment that acquitted and discharged Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba, stated this in a release made available to DAILY POST in Owerri, Imo State.
He said that at no point did the governor’s chief press secretary or any other government representative address the media regarding the Appeal Court ruling.
He added that the governor could not have questioned the verdict as implied by the fake news since he is a law-abiding Nigerian citizen who respects the rule of law.
“We are aware that Ihedioha is frantically attempting to drag His Excellency into the muck he entangled himself in following his ill-advised attacks on Ndigbo in which he labeled them saboteurs. However, this childish stunt is a new low for him, according to Emelumba,” he said.
He pointed out that Ihedioha and the PDP have been working to reduce Uzodimma’s popularity following a string of accomplishments in governance and other national roles.
The commissioner stated that anyone familiar with the state governor’s character would verify that he had never insulted the court, even when decisions in personal matters did not go his way.
He described it as the height of mischief and perjury for the opposition in the state to attribute such a comment to Uzodimma.
He also made it clear that Uzodimma as a compassionate philanthropist, would never rejoice in the misfortune of anyone.
Emelumba reiterated his call for the managers of public information to be circumspect in the discharge of their duties.
He said, “the fake news didn’t attempt to answer the fundamental questions of 5Ws and H, which are who, what, when, where, why, and How concerning any news story.”
He asked Nigerians to ignore the fake news as neither the governor nor his aides have reacted to the Appeal Court judgment on Nnamdi Kanu.
